About this Presentation

In the vast majority of project environments, there is fierce competition for resources not among projects but between projects and non-project activities. Even well-executed TOC / CCPM implementations may fail to yield significant results if this aspect is not properly handled. In this presentation, we'll explore a comprehensive framework to organize the flow of activities (project and non-project ones alike) and how this will, in turn, support project management and how both are connected to the financial results of companies. We'll explore an example scenario from a software company and then explore how this can be implemented in any project-performing environment. We'll explore critical elements of the TOC solutions, like WIP limiting, buffer management, and due date setting. Then we'll move into how a properly integrated management of projects and operations impacts Throughput, Investment, and Operating Expenses through the TOC Financial Compass. We'll conclude by presenting a comprehensive view of how each action can contribute to either company value or client value or both.

What Will You Learn

Plane
Understanding the relationship between projects and operations is crucial in project management and can significantly impact the value generation and results an organization can achieve.
Human ethics and behavior play a significant role in project management. The concept of doing good things and not doing bad things is common, but it fails to consider the limited resources we have, particularly time.
Multitasking can lead to inefficiencies in project management. The switching costs, the time it takes for a resource to switch from one activity to another, can negatively impact quality, flow, lead times, and drain down people's energy.
