About this Presentation
The recent years have been challenging to countries, people and to management. Covid, collapse of the supply chains, wars in Ukraine and now in the Middle East, geopolitical conflicts and tensions have created huge difficulties and challenges to management of companies and businesses. Observing these situations through the eyes of TOC I can summarize that management were confronted with several types of interacting constraints: capacity constraints due to covid lock-downs, supply constraints due to stoppage of production within the suppliers and breakdown of supply chains, and market constraints due to reduction in orders and consumption. These constraints created vicious loops that were beyond the ability of many management teams to sort out even after the covid lockdowns were over. Improving performance, especially with the difficulties of interactive constraints, needs the collaborative cooperation and activities of key members of the top team, sales, production, engineering, supply chain, HR and finance. Each one is a necessary condition for achieving the higher goal. The achievement of the higher goal usually demands closing of performance gaps in the key areas. Whenever the higher goal has been presented with clear measurable gaps to be closed, we have observed three types of reactions from management teams: clear instructions – top down – were not followed; top managers could not/would not present any ideas for closing the gaps under their responsibility; or, top managers suggested actions that could not provide a positive result, and in some cases even caused damage. To help top management align thinking and behavior of their management teams with the higher goal we have developed and successfully used a set of management tools that we have called Management for Results. I will present some of the tools.
