Zindal Steel and Power Limited has used the Theory of Constraints to transform its financial performance, turning a loss of 300 million US dollars into a profit of 750 million US dollars over a six-year period.
The company implemented several key policy changes, including shifting from a made-to-stock model to a made-to-order model, implementing a zero credit period, and allocating steel based on product ranking, to improve cash flow and operational efficiency.
Operational efficiency was further improved through measures such as reducing batch sizes, improving equipment availability, and minimizing work in progress inventory, leading to increased production and profitability.
